What Brings you?

In the years I’ve been practicing, I’ve noticed a few changes in the reasons someone might seek
individual therapy.

Whilst the motivations I describe on my welcome page are enduring drivers, I see more people who
are simply looking for a reliable place to give themselves an experience of true attention. A place that is increasingly hard to find in these highly stimulating and distracting times.

Whether or not you have named it as such, you might find yourself yearning for a time in your week that runs slower, offers more space, welcomes greater depth. You might be hungry for some of the gentle mending that comes from speaking truly whilst being truly heard.

People often get in touch at a time when they have encountered a fork in the road. The end of a relationship, a life-reckoning illness, a challenge in their working life. Some kind of loss, change or transition.

It might be something harder to pin down. Maybe an abiding sense that things are not as they might be. A feeling that old wounds have not been adequately tended to. Or a creative longing not being given the breath that it needs. You might experience yourself as governed by archaic habits, beliefs or patterns that are no longer fit for purpose, diminishing the quality of your relationships. Or that
somehow the life you are leading is not the one that your nature craves.

Working at relational depth

We will begin a dialogue, where questioning and noticing is valued more highly than conclusions, solutions or labels; where generalisation makes way for the particular; where assumptions and judgements are set aside to make space for curiosity.

We will bear with silence, uncertainty and the discomfort of not knowing. We will pay attention to your somatic experience and the language and symbols of your dreams and imagination.

We will create a space and a relationship that enables you to see and experience yourself honestly, thus inviting you to let go what is no longer needed and to tend seriously to the unlived life laden with potential for renewal and invigoration.
